Shopping mall Eglantier
Location Apeldoorn | Client Municipality of Apeldoorn | Architects AGS, Soeters van Eldonk | Supervisor Aad Trompert, Witteveen | Design 2006-2008 Realization 2009-heden

Shopping mall and residential centre De Eglantier in Apeldoorn will be totally transformed. Residential and commercial space will be added to the centre and the public space will be renovated and extended. Together with the architects HOUTMAN+SANDER elaborated the urban plan and made a design for all public space.

“All materials, pavement as well as furnishing, have had an update”

Despite of the big differences in use of this public space (a parking zone, market square, shopping street and loading zone), a coherent structure was designed. The use of materials is plain and simple: merely red, brown and black pavement. The pedestrian zone has become flatter and more easily accessible. On the edge of the shopping mall, plane trees are planted in the parking zone, already quite big. In the shopping area, honey trees are planted. Their transparent trunk makes sure plenty of light reaches the streets. Custom made benches will be placed in the brick stairways. The amount of obstacles in this public space is going to be minimal.
